Welcome to Nassau ARES Get your friends licensed, then into ARES
Greetings, Thank you for stopping by to visit the Nassau County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (NCARES) website. This site is devoted to those who volunteer their precious time as well as their personal resources in an effort to provide emergency communications for federal, state and local governmental agencies along with such entities as the American Red Cross who serve the public good in times of need. We also provide public service communications for organizations such as the American Diabetes Association, March of Dimes and Multiple Sclerosis Society, supporting their efforts during public events for fundraising, outreach and public awareness activities within our community. NCARES members are radio operators licensed by the Federal Communications Commission. Members enjoy radio as a hobby but also train and prepare for emergencies that may require the need for supplemental and support communications when conventional means are severed or become disrupted by natural, manmade or accidental events. Any currently licensed amateur radio operator can join NCARES. We encourage membership to all who live and or work in Nassau County and do not require operators to own specific equipment although the use of battery powered, portable or mobile gear is strongly encouraged. We provide training opportunities for all members and promote collegiality between the membership through monthly meetings and weekly radio nets. Whether it is reporting severe weather conditions to the National Weather Service or providing end of race location information to the officials of the Long Island Marathon, NCARES volunteers are there, on post while providing needed communications to those agencies and organizations who ask for our professional expertise. NCARES is more than 70 strong but the need for additional members continues to grow as we are asked to provide more radio services to served agencies, not only of conventional voice operations but with the new digital technologies and computer driven communication newly developed. Now more than ever, I urge you to volunteer your special talents and your time to this very special need. Amateur Radio Operators will continue to provide emergency communication. That is what we do…….we provide the last mile of communications reliably to those within our community, when all else fails! Sign up today, on line by clicking on “Join NCARES”……… just to the left side of this webpage. If by chance you wandered on to this page accidentally and you do not have an amateur radio license, but ARES sounds interesting to you, I would encourage you to get a license. Visit www . arrl.org or www .limarc.org , where you will find people there who will help you get licensed. Study guides are posted on this website. Once you have your license, come join our group, and complete your training with us. You will then be able to assist in public service events and most importantly, to help out during emergencies by providing much-needed radio communications. You will also be proud of what you accomplish. Thank you and 73, Tim Cregan, N2RDB - District Emergency Coordinator Nassau County Amateur Radio Emergency Service
